November 27, What Comes Next After Nano?

For most people what comes next after nano is revision, revision, revision. That may include many things. For my friend in Washington state it might mean determining where one book ends and the next begins for she has been working on three in her series; all of them started during nano.

She also has to see where all the chapters will fit. I think she did better this year, although in the past she has lost oodles of information when she was in the middle of revision when her computer was acting up.

For me, I haven’t worked on revising either of the novels I worked on during nano, although I hope to do so sometime in the future. This year, I have nothing to revise since I took a conglomeration of words for my total count. Granted they were all words put together into sentences for a purpose at the time, usually as I  was chatting to one group or another, along with my posts in my many blogs and other things I wrote.

Some of the people that are members of the writing web site are joining a blogging challenge to keep up their desire to write something daily. I did consider joining that myself, but recently decided that wouldn’t be the best for my life right now.

Before I continue with some of what I want to share in this post, I will say that I only intended for this blog to be written during the current nano and maybe save further posts for the nano’s in the years to come. Even if I choose to work on another novel, I could post a little bit here just to keep everyone informed.

So, when this years nano is over I don’t plan on posting anything new here until next years nano begins. If you wonder what I’m up to please feel free to check out any of my other blogs which are all listed on November 15th’s post. That is titled my other word press blogs. I had two posts dated that day, this was the first of the two.

After nano, and then later on this winter when I have more of my bookkeeping caught up, I hope to visit more of your blogs and strike up a conversation.

I decided rather than me worrying about posting every day elsewhere for December, that I need to get going on the bookkeeping for my business as I am behind. I think everything is done until around June or July-my daughter helped me get that far, but nothing much has been done since then.

I still want to write post on most of my blogs, but I won’t have to think about writing 1666 words per day and that should be refreshing. My goal will be to post in each of my blogs at least once ever other week for starters and then once I get caught up at home, maybe I will be able to have time and find things to talk about even more often than that.

I know some of the things I want to discuss will take some researching, whereas other posts will be off the cuff. The ones that I need to research will of course take away precious time and mean I won’t be writing that  much then, but when the research is done hopefully I’ll be able to put together a decent post that I may be able to use in a different way later. Or I may decided to save it as an article and put just a small section here to whet your appetite for more.

This post has 606 words and any writing I do after work will not be added to this count as I’m putting it on the official site now.

November 13, Don’t Give Up Just Yet, Breakthrough is Around that Corner

I posted my last post just as the clock struck twelve, so alas, it didn’t go for yesterday’s post but for today’s instead. But that’s okay, I’m going to post when I think of something to write so that I can hopefully catch up.

I’ve already begun several drafts of posts in the few days time when I didn’t post anything, or not much of anything at all. Possibly had I posted the little that I had written, I would have gotten a second wind and written even more than I expected.

Even now, I certainly didn’t expect to begin a new post right after publishing the last one, but I updated my word counts in the official nano site and thought I’d take a look at my email there. I was surprised because I received an email from the nano originator himself, Chris Baty.

To quote one of his paragraphs, he said: “You can help build that path faster by hitting your writing goals for the next three days. This may sound like a small thing, but little, consistent writing achievements open the door to huge writing breakthroughs”.

Not only did that inspire me so that I can expect to finish nano, but it also inspired me to realize that I can be more consistent in posting in my various blogs more often. Maybe all I will need to do is endeavor to hit my writing goals for three days of each and every week, that should allow me to have the necessary time to come up with something for each blog at least weekly. That would be very sweet.

I thought I’d mention that I’d like to thank all my new followers for this blog along with the likers and those that do make a comment or two on any of my blogs.

I ran into a problem this morning when checking out a blog of someone that is now following this one. The blog has awesome photography on it and the viewer can also purchase prints if they’d like. The problem I had was being able to make any comments or liking any post that I checked out.

I have found that I’m not able to do any of that using my Chrome browser, so I generally have the firefox one open for that reason. I used the firefox browser to again try to like a post or two and make a comment and suggestion, but it seemed that the problem may have been word press related this time. Whatever it was, I wasn’t able to do any communication with the site owner on their site. I even tried to follow their blog using my email address and that didn’t work either.

I tried to use pinterest to link their blog to my account for others to oooh and aaah over the photography, and pinterest even put a stop to the link. This particular person has thousands of followers, so it doesn’t make sense to me. Maybe I’ll try internet explorer later on, but soon I’ll be getting ready for work.

It’ll be busy as the days progress toward Thanksgiving. We are always short-handed. A few cashiers are being trained right now, hopefully they will be able to start before Thanksgiving to help lighten the load. My daughter even applied recently. I don’t know whether she’ll be a cashier or help in the clothing department. Whichever it is, it will be a benefit to me as I’ll be able to take her off my insurance as she’ll be able to get her own. I’m looking forward to that.

When I began this nano blog, I thought after nano was completed that I would save this blog for each succeeding nano, from year to year and not use it in between. But, now that I’m starting to have a bit of a following, I may not do actual posts here in the interim, but I can use the space to link posts I make on my other blogs in case anyone would like to read any of them.

I’m going to finish this post and maybe do another post later tonight to try to finish my word count for the day as I’m just under half way there. On the official nano site, they would consider this extra for what I put there in the wee hours of the morning because I wasn’t able to change my count for yesterday until the clock had already struck twelve.

Had I realized I was that close in time, I would have moved a little faster to try to get it posted before today began, but I wasn’t paying that much attention.

I would really like to take time out from writing, and there isn’t really any time to take since I’m behind already, but I would like to get better at getting things done around the house.

Later fellow bloggers.

November 3, Who’s Taking the Blame?

Today I want to start by continuing part of what I was talking about yesterday. Well, I was writing, not talking, but you know what I mean. I was sharing about being consistent and not procrastinating. I know I was consistent and had good habits build at one time in my life, but somewhere life go in the way, I got busy and didn’t keep everything up.

I could blame it on someone in my home as they had a  lackadaisical attitude about helping out most of the time and I could say that was a good reason, but I won’t. Blame on anything always falls back on ourselves, unless it’s related to abuse of some sort, then of course I never believe a person brings it on themselves.

The human race, though, is over-eager to blame someone else for their inadequacies, mistakes, failures, breaking the law or whatever. Be it big things or little things, it’s easier to find someone else to blame rather than taking the blame upon ourselves.

It’s one thing taking the blame it’s quite another getting depressed over whatever it was that happened, or not meeting one’s goals or whatever the thing might be. If you are someone that has a hard time accepting the blame or if you’re able to accept it but have a hard time dealing with it afterward, you may want to seek out professional counseling. I believe it is possible to live with an optimistic attitude, you just might need some training to live that way.

I cannot blame being inconsistent with anyone but myself. I think another excuse I could give would be the computer, before the computer age, I’d like to think I got a lot more done.

Thinking about it though, that’s not even it. Maybe it’s age related, aches and pains related-still nothing to blame, yet…

I remember within the past twelve years moving the furniture around in the living room and the bedroom to vacuum around the walls and corners to stop spiders from getting a hold and making a home. My mother trained us to do this, we did it on a monthly basis.

I know others who have never really done this, or if they do, it’s more on a bi-yearly to yearly basis. I had to quit, or slow down with it when I realized that my using my knees to move the couches and chairs maybe were a factor in my knees not being as healthy as they could be. I know I’ve been afflicted with arthritis in the past, but have found different products that have worked well to minimize the effects of the ailment. Even then, I’ve all but eliminated moving everything around. Recently though, I did take the bed apart and vacuum thoroughly along with a large section of the room.

I went to an orthopedic specialist a few years ago to get exercises that would benefit my knees so I wouldn’t need knee replacement surgery down the road. My regular doctor ordered up ex-rays of my knees and told me that I did have arthritis. The specialist told me he didn’t see the arthritis (or so I understood), but that something was wrong with my knees, he just didn’t know what the problem was.

My left knee isn’t as flexible as the right one is, and neither one is great. I thought maybe the left one had a miniscus tear in it and I was kind of hoping to have surgery on it, as I had heard that the surgery does wonders. He didn’t believe that was the problem either. He did order up the exercises, though and I was able to go to a physical therapist for several weeks and continued with them at home for quite a while.

Since then I talked with a PA that works in the same office, and he told me something like the top of the knee moves along a bone on either side of the knee and that as a person gets older the section it sits on widens causing the knee cap to slide off the bone. It’s only temporary, but it’s excruciating while it lasts. For me, it’s lasted at the most maybe, thirty  seconds, not very long thankfully. Generally, it happens when I’m walking, although my knees act weird when climbing stairs, so I like to use two hands to hold the railing in case one of my knees decides to give out.

He said it is a problem with both men and women, mostly as they get older, and it’s more common with women than men.

When I saw the specialist, I did think of asking him if he thought all the years with me moving furniture with my knees caused my problems, and he didn’t believe that affected them, but I still wonder. Now whenever I move furniture to do cleaning, I do my best to move it from a different position. Since I have the problems I do with my knees, I’m not able to lift say a couch or chair (even with help) with my knees which would be the proper way to lift.

So, I don’t know whether my procrastination with cleaning is because I’m so busy (working two jobs and trying to write on the side), or because I’m trying to keep up with the dishes, or raking leaves or mowing the lawn… Sorry, not meaning to sound highfalutin, mostly trying to make a simple transition between the sections already written with what comes next.

Have you all heard about the cobbler’s son? That could be my main problem. I’m overextended and in the wrong business. I’ve talked about cleaning windows before, but that’s not all we’re a general cleaning business also. Some years we have more other cleaning jobs that others. We cleaned a church for over five years, and right now we’re cleaning a gym twice a week, but thankfully, I’ not doing the cleaning.

I don’t mind cleaning for others, it’s just that I’m busy enough as it is. We’re only doing it on a temporary basis as the regular person that cleans for them is in Russia helping to make her mother’s last days on earth better.

One thing I’ve been trying to do for a long time is building a habit of consistency in my writing, especially my various blogs. I don’t care whether I write a post per day, necessarily, in fact at this stage it’s stupid for me to expect that of myself. But I can get to the place where I can do it every week or at the most ever other week, now that would be grand. Then I could take turns on which one I post and keep them all fairly active.

(As an aside, I wish I could get this blog to post according to my time zone. Right not it’s 7:50 pm in my time zone which is est but WordPress has it as 11:30pm, therefore, I’m obviously not going to get this completed before midnight on WordPress as it’s fast approaching and I have a couple of other things to accomplish before I continue and write everything I hope to write tonight. Sheesh, or ish as a friend would say). Weird, WordPress’s time doesn’t seem to change unless a person is writing. In my time about two hours have passed, but on WordPress it’s only been about twenty minutes.  It says 11:54 now. I may just stop shortly, post this and start again in a few minutes.

I have to interrupt this previously scheduled program to take care of something I promised to do, and then I’m going to cook up some spaghetti squash to have before it gets too late, and then I’ll be back.

Ooh, got some great ideas for my Christian blog from cooking the squash and trying to remove the seeds. Will post on that later.

I’m a Nano Rebel

Yes, there is such a thing as a nano rebel. It might be finishing novels started during other nano years, or other novel projects, or it could be article related or any type of writing done in that month.

This is the current location for my posts for writing during November. My goal is to get to 50k words in the one month.

I’m not sure what a page allows me to do, so I’ll check this out tonight and see if I want to start a whole new blog just for nano later on if this doesn’t work out that well. A page won’t allow me to continue to post each day, so I began a new blog just for this purpose. It can be found at:

Come watch my progress.

Day One, November 1 2012

At midnight November 1, I completed a review for a story on Here is the review.

This is good, you had me on the edge of my seat until I almost fell off at the end. What happened to the ending? That must be the ending of chapter one, if you’re not going to do more with this book, then you may want to lengthen this story a bit more to have a better ending.

The sub-title says it was a new neighbor, yet she talks about recently purchasing the property. If it was less money than she expected it to be and if she now thinks it’s because of the information she found on the computer, then it sounds to me like the other person lived there for a while and she is the new neighbor. Maybe it’s just the way that portion of the phrase reads,

Another idea would be to end the sub-title with secrets and not include the part about the neighbor. This would avoid confusion at least until you work on the story a bit more.

This is a review for

The about page is an additional 79 words.

Today was not the best day to get going in this project of mine. I began writing at midnight and posted what I wrote at the beginning here, some of that are thoughts about this project of mind, some are regarding a review I did at midnight.

I was planning on writing a bit more after midnight, but as I was setting this blog up, we lost our phone service and internet connection. I wasn’t able to revive it last night, so my husband and myself turned off our computers to let them rest-something I rarely do.

When I got up in the morning and turned everything on, we still had no internet service. We did regain our phone service last night before heading to bed, but not the internet.

This happens too much with our internet provider. I want to check with another provider in the area to see what their costs are, my friend has that one and says they never lose service for their phone or internet.

So when I got up today, the first thing I wanted to do is straighten out the cords under my desk. The reason for this is that I know from experience that if the modem needs to be reconfigured, many times I’ll need to take the router out of the picture and connect the modem directly to the computer. The problem I usually have is that I’m working in a small space and it’s difficult to figure out while on the phone with the automated customer service machines.

Once I figured all of that out, I disconnected my router and did what I knew they’d ask me to do and connected my modem directly to my computer. It took a while, but eventually they were able to get the modem to respond to their pings. Once that worked out I figured it would be simple to reconnect it through the router, which when I did it worked out fine.

It wasn’t long after I got the internet to work that I needed to leave with a crew to work on cleaning someone’s windows. I thought I would send them alone as they are fully capable and then I could get more done around the house before starting later in the day at my second job, cashiering.

Then I remembered that the home-owner told me she was going to an appointment half an hour after we would get there. Many of our customers expect either myself or my husband at the job site, so I thought I’d better go along to that job. I wasn’t planning on working, but reading one of several magazines instead.

As usual I didn’t get very far in the magazine as I helped in different capacities such as raising shades, helping to get screens out as a few were put in backward and the tabs to remove them were broken off, I stabilized the ladder for a bit while the worker was cleaning an especially tall window-he had to get up higher than the recommended step. I would never recommend doing this unless the person on the ladder has someone bracing the ladder in some way.

Once that job was done, we headed back to my house to get hot water in a second bucket. Since it’s colder out now, I didn’t want that bucket to have freezing water in it when it was time to use it. I then stayed home and continued working on setting up this Word Press blog for nano.

Now I need to go back and recount my words as the Word Press counter seemed to start over in the count when I continued to write a few minutes ago.

I still have a ways to go in remembering where everything is on the Official Nano site. I did attempt two nano’s in the past; for the second one I found out I could do some prep work for it and that helped a lot although I still didn’t reach my goal.

This year I only found out recently that I could do nano as a rebel and I decided to get involved if only to get more consistent in posting in my many blogs.

When I do post in those blogs, I’ll either include the post here, or include the word count and just put the link to the post. I may do the opposite in some of those blogs by connecting what I’ve written here to different blogs of mine, whichever one it seems related to. For instance much of what I’ve written in this post today could also go on my blog On the other hand, since nano is about writing, then I could put it on the freelancing blog instead.

This year when I signed up on the official site, I had to sign up as a new user. I’m thinking I must have used a yahoo email that I used to have, but would have no idea what my username or password was before. I’m hoping I can figure out that information sometime so I can see what other years I did do nano even though I never reached the goal of 50k words.

Onto another subject. I’m supposed to be working on payroll right now. We have four employees although none of them work full time. Two of them work less hours than the other two, it’s a matter of choice. For one, she watches her grandchildren most days of the week and is only available to work with us two days generally. The other person has health issues. She’s been with us the longest, almost twenty some years.  Her daughter is one that works a lot of hours, and we have a man that has been with us four months that manages the ladders and second story windows for us.

My husband used to do most of the work himself and after several years, I would help out periodically. I didn’t work all the time as I had another job waitressing for a company that has since gone out of business.

Five years ago, my husband had a problem with a blood clot in an artery in his leg. He didn’t know that the blood clot was there, he didn’t have any of the usual symptoms. What caused him to go to ER was he was having problems with his right foot. He fell in October and it looked like the middle toe on his right foot broke, eventually it healed. We didn’t take him to the doctor about it as were had heard previously that there was nothing they could do for broken toes. So, the toe did seem to heal, but as the holiday season came about-he worked at the same retail store that I did, except by this time he worked in the meat department-that foot began to bother him more and more.

I don’t remember the sequence of events, I do know that one week the foot hurt and the doctor had him get ex-rays of the area, but nothing showed up on the films. Eventually the foot swelled up and that third toe began to bleed.

At that time, I took him to emergency and it took hours to get him in an examining room. We asked whether the spill he took in the fall would have anything to do with his symptoms, they didn’t believe that was the case.

Eventually they brought a technician down with equipment to test his blood pressure on his lower limbs, they discovered that from the thigh down there was barely any blood flow and that was why that foot was having so many problems.

He was admitted that night, and ended up spending three months in the hospital. That foot turned gangrene and began to rise up the ankle and above. Before it got that far he did have a catherization on that artery. He was told that he had the veins and arteries of a twenty year old, so the prognosis looked good.

Then the catherization collapsed and they did a by-pass using a vein in the leg to replace the artery in the leg. There is a lot to this story, but I’ll say here that he ended up spending three months in the hospital, he was intubated three times and finally he was sent home so he could decide whether he was going to have that leg amputated. They wanted to save the knee so he was supposed to let them know before the gangrene progressed to a certain mole on his leg.
